Note About Nomenclature

I have decided to post opinions with a catchy and explanatory title explaining the decision's holding, rather than with the name of the published opinion.  I hope that this will help you decide, at a glance, whether a given opinion is worth reading. It also looks a little cleaner than "PO#3 ...."!

4/16/14 No Published Opinions

The Eleventh Circuit relaxed a little bit today, and did not issue any published opinions, after seven opinions were issued over the last two days. (Note: In the titles of blog posts I refer to published opinions as "PO").

Note that the Tenth Circuit will hear oral argument tomorrow morning in the second same-sex marriage case from Oklahoma.  I will try to provide some analysis of the oral arguments in that case.

If you are wondering whether there is a possibility that a same-sex marriage case will make it to the Eleventh Circuit soon, the answer is not likely, at least not before numerous other circuit courts are going to rule on the matter (and potentially the Supreme Court).  There are legal challenges to marriage amendments pending in Alabama and Florida district courts, but it will likely be years before those could end up here.  There is, surprisingly, no challenge pending in any Georgia district court.
